Punta della Dogana

The Punta Della Dogana Museum of Contemporary Art is really an interesting new museum. Well restored, it seems they tried to maintain the original building as much as possible. The view is stunning, but unfortunately the terraces are closed.

A couple of pieces of the exposition are really amazing.

Don’t go on Wednesday, it’s free for Venetians and you could find a long queue (especially with bad weather when they don’t go to the beach!).

Old words hidden on a bridge parapet

Looking carefully at the iron parapet of the Borgoloco bridge (close to Santa Maria Formosa) you can see these three letters: W V E.

In Venice it’s said that it means W Vittorio Emanuele II, the King of Piemonte (1849-1878) and then of Italy, when Italy was created in 1861.
Venice became part of Italy in 1866, the bridge is surely oldest, but we don’t know when the parapet was build, so we don’t know if these letters was a bravery act towards the Austrian or a celebration.
