VENEZIANO 2007

21 January, 2008

Last year I wrote about “Veneziano dell’anno”price (received by Lady Frances Ashley Clarke) This year the winner is Marino Zorzi , who (until last December) was the Director of the Venice Marciana National Library.

The Library (established in 1468 thanks to a devise from the Cardinal Bessarione) has today about 1 million books, 13.000 manuscripts and 2.883 “incunaboli” (Does someone know the English translation?).

    Congratulations to Director Zorzi.
“incunaboli” are called incunabula in the library where I work. The term refers to printed books “from the cradle” or swaddling clothes. They are early examples of printed books from the 1500s. Here are a couple of links:

Thank you for providing such a nice blog about a great city.

  2. Thanks!
With my English it was too hard to explain it.
